Ideas to help with TFIN

|
Teacher Menu to Help Their Future is Now! Campaign

Once the menu is complete we can present to the District office to makesure we are not breaking any rules.

District Rules:  Don't ask teachers to talk about the campaign in class, or distribute materials in class or directly to students/parents through district lists.
-----------------------------------------------------
0.  Linda:  If there is an event in which many parents will be on campus like open house then ask the principal if a Townhall meeting can be planned at the back end of the event.  Your school's outreach leader should be working on this but they might not be aware of the opportunity.   Teachers can promote this event (e.g. flyers, calls, emails directly to the parents) because it is not Their Future is Now (TFIN)Specific.   Teachers should work with their school outreach lead and principal to plan this.  TFIN Outreach lead email is listed on the website:  http://www.savecupertinoschools.org/getinvolved.htm

Townhall Agenda:
-  Principal welcomes all parents and there is reserved seating for all teachers
-  TFIN spokeman gives brief presentation
-  Principal discusses the painful impact of to their child's educational quality, the loss of teachers, loss of small class sizes, teachers being sent to new school and new grade.
-----------------------------------------------------
1.  Patrice:  e-mail a personal letter to parents of current and former students; Elaine has given me a copy of a letter she wrote, and I will revise it so it's suitable for laid-off/non-laid off teachers when I get back from vacation.
Linda:  I am not sure if the district will allow this.  If it is allowed then this can be only sent from teacher's personal email address and the email list needs to be one's that was collected by the parent and not by the district.
Teacher can also ask if room parent or TFIN classroom representative or volunteer to send to parents.
---------------------------------
2.  Patrice:  teachers send a flyer like Montclaire's to parents of current students
Linda:  This can be only sent from teacher's personal email address and the email list needs to be one's that was collected by the parent and not by the district.
Teacher can also ask if room parent or TFIN classroom representative or volunteer to send to parents.
----------------------------------
3.  Patrice: teachers continue to volunteer for outreach at library, Cherry Blossom Festival, etc.
We have online sign-ups for volunteers

1.  Weekly Cupertino Library outreach:  below is the library teacher sign-up
www.mysignup.com/tfin-parent-library

2.  April 17 10am to 2pm:  Earth Day outreach
www.mysignup.com/tfin-earth-day

3.  April 24 and 25: Cherry Blossom Festival Outreach
www.mysignup.com/tfin-cherry-blossom
----------------------------------
4.  Patrice: look into the possibility of passing out flyers to parents dropping kids off at school, maybe one or two days, especially towards the end of the drive
Linda:  Only parents can distribute flyers after class directly to students or their parents at school.  They flyers should be printed not using school district resources or equipment.  You could give room parent or TFIN parent rep. or volunteer parent the flyer and ask them to distribute.
----------------------------------
5.  Patrice:  create a visual to be displayed at the school office to show goal and amount currently raised
Linda:  Teachers would work with their school outreach lead and principal to plan this display.
----------------------------------
6.  Patrice:   individual teachers call the parents in their classroom, would need to be provided with script
Linda:  District does not have policy on this yet however we can ask.

-------------------------------------
7.  Suggestion from another school Brian Davenport at Hyde:   Targeting the entire staff of school and and reach $750 so that they can be a sponsor. While staff could donate it individually they might like to see themselves on the sponsor page in order to challenge other schools to do the same. Staff can donate directly to www.savecupertionschools.org to get tax deduction.    Someone at the school will give name of all staff that have donated directly along with any cash they may have collected and the donation will be grouped into one sponsor.  The sponsor could have a line that says
"  xxx school teachers -- excellence in educations"  or some one line inspiring.
