Information:

Where is the Money?

What is COLA?

Cost Of Living adjustment - An annual adjustment in wages to offset a change in purchasing power measured by the Consumer Price Index.  COLA helps employees keep pace with inflation and is funded by monies from the State.

CUSD received a 4.57% COLA for the 2007-2008 school year.  What does that mean?

                        4.57% COLA = $4,006,500

The $4,006,500 is ongoing monies that CUSD will continue to receive year after year.

Growth monies?

CUSD is experiencing larger than normal student growth.  This student growth can be converted to new ongoing monies for the District.  This year alone CUSD grew by more than 300 new students.  CUSD is predicted to grow by 1000 new students in the next 3 years!

                        300+ new students = $1,745,200

How much?

$4,006,500                  Cupertino Union School District has received for 2007-2008

+$1,745,200             $5.7 Million in new and ongoing money!

            $5,751,700

So, the question is, where did that ongoing money go to?

The District does not want to pay teachers!

The District does not want to help with Health Costs!Cupertino Union School District is not in the business of making money but in educating students!

What about the current District reserve?

CUSD finished the 2006-2007 school year with $8,835,454 in unrestricted reserves.  It also ended the year with $5,256,105 in restricted reserves.

What does that mean?  It means the district ended 2006-2007 with over $14 million dollars in reserves!!!!!!

                                    WHY????

The teachers of CUSD continue to pay more and more money out of their OWN pocket for health care, while the school district is MAKING money!!

WHY????

Why would the district hoard money?  "Is this what the Cupertino community wants done with its tax dollars?"

QUIZ:

So, with the district ending 2006-2007 with over $9 million dollars in unrestricted reserves and they have not spent a "new" penny on teachers salaries or health and welfare this year, what do you think the reserve will be at the end of this year?

a)      $9 million

b)     $10 million

c)      $14 million

You guessed correctly!!  C) $14 MILLION DOLLARS!!!
