CEA Organizing Plan for March and April

Work to Rule - Having been ratified by the CEA Representative Assembly

Beginning on March 10th CEA will start "Work to Rule"

What does "work to rule" look like?  Each school has a different "work to rule" ritual.

                                    Ideas:

1.      Beginning of the day - Have the whole staff meet at a pre-arranged place and walk/drive to school together.  Make sure you arrive just before the duty day begins.

2.      End of the day - All meet in one place and walk out of school and to your cars together.

3.      Report cards - If you cannot finish your report cards during your prep time and you are not being paid to do them after school, something must be put aside until the report cards are done.

Some ideas:

a.       Watching movies

b.      Quiet time/Reading time

c.       Brief one sentence in the comments section

Report cards take an inordinate amount of time to complete.  If instruction time is affected, it is important to finish the report cards quickly and get back to the important task of actual instruction to the students.

4.       Homework - If homework cannot be corrected during your prep time and you are not being paid to work at home, then homework will have to wait until time permits.  (Some teachers have parent volunteers to put together and grade homework, and that is fine).

5.      Adjunct duty - If the adjunct duty has been assigned, it must be done as long as that duty is within the 40 hour work week.

6.      After school sports, if paid by Parks and Recreation, can be continued.  It is up to the individual.

7.      "Work to Rule" will continue until CEA and CUSD have reached a settlement.

8.      Attendance to Open House is permitted if within the working day.

9.      Continue to wear your pins, use the car signs and wear blue.

10.  If you are directed by the District or site administrator to perform a duty or action, you must complete said order or it can be construed as insubordination.  If you feel the order is incorrect, feels wrong, and/or doesn't sound right, you should immediately perform the duty then call the CEA office at 257-2122 or 718-1820.

CUSD Board Meetings

Dates for CUSD Board Meetings:  March 11th, March 25, April 8th, April 22nd, May 13th, May 27th, June 10th and June 24th.

There will be a large rally at the March 11th Board meeting.  Invite parents to attend!  We need speakers, so if you feel comfortable or mad enough to speak, please call the CEA office at 257-2122 and let us know your intentions.

For the April 8th board meeting, we will be gathering at the Cali Mill Plaza (corner of DeAnza and Stevens Creek, next to Le Boulanger) and walking down Stevens Creek to the CUSD district office.

The morning rally will begin at 7 am and an afternoon rally will commence at

3:30pm.

The afternoon rally will start at 3:30pm and last until 5pm!

Why are WE at this point?

As teachers we strive to do the very best in our job, which usually means lots of hours outside of our contractual duty day, yet the district adamantly claims that we all have "plenty of prep time in our day to get everything done".   The purpose of "work to rule" is to demonstrate just how untrue the Districts statements are, that is why CEA continues to make compromises with the District in the negotiating process, even postponing "work to rule" labor action in hopes to move the negotiations forward. Unfortunately, the District continues to be entrenched with a 0% compensation offer.  There has been a complete lack of respect on the Districts part in negotiations.

It is time for the Cupertino Teachers to stand up and be heard!  Your fellow teachers need YOU to put your best foot forward and help make the District and School Board listen to our concerns and bargain in good faith!  The District's offer of 0%, higher health costs, and status quo on everything is UNACCEPTABLE.  If you don't get involved RIGHT NOW, then you are accepting a decrease in pay (through higher health costs), let the District continue to grow its reserve and allow for the shameful and disrespectful way our district is treating us.

TEACHERS DO MATTER!  GET INVOLVED NOW!

AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!
